Digital Wellbeing of Families

About This Project

As technology becomes more and more integral to everything we do, it can sometimes distract us from the things that matter most to us. Google believes that technology should improve life, not distract from it. Google’s commitment to digital wellbeing of families is grounded in the belief that life, not the technology in it, stays front and center. Fluent was honored to be part of this initiative by informing a consumer-centric framework for digital wellbeing of families.

Digital technology is integrated into nearly every aspect of our lives, yet its impact on the wellbeing of children, parents, and families is little understood or taken into account by technology companies developing digital products. Google retained Fluent to fill this gap by examining the impact of digital technology on family as a whole.

Fluent has conducted a large-scale multinational study, combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies, in 11 countries in the US, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Our data analysis included sophisticated analytical methods and a psychographic segmentation of the sample into distinct family personas.

The research identified key factors driving digital wellbeing of families. We developed metrics of digital wellbeing that Google plans to use to measure the impact of digital technologies on families’ wellbeing over time. The research was used for the Google-wide policy framework.
